OYAP
Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program
OYAP opens the door to apprenticeship in a wide range of exciting careers. If you are entering Grade 11 and are at least 16 years old, you can work towards a career in a skilled trade as a registered apprentice, and eventually a certified skilled worker or journeyperson, while you complete your Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
OYAP helps young people obtain placements in 130 skilled trades that can be learned through apprenticeship training. Students register as apprentices and begin their formal apprenticeship training while they are still in school. With both a diploma and the skills to get the job done when they graduate, these students have a big head start.
Co-operative education provides students with the opportunity to learn about jobs and careers; to learn how to get along with people; to develop responsibility and self-confidence; to get necessary experience for the future jobs, college and university courses; to get first chance at part-time, summer and full-time jobs; and to earn credits towards a diploma. A separate application form is required. Students must be 16 years of age and in grade 11 or 12. Students are reminded that an in school component is necessary for all placements. The course is kept underway by the hard work from Mrs. MacNeill.
